BCC's Comprehensive Program to Secure & Monetize GHG Emission Credits

  1. Working with power and energy companies, BCC reviews their activiities and projects to identify candidates for claiming reductions in Greenhouse Gas ( GHG) emissions. Once identified, the basis of the claim is detailed and the magnitude of the reduction is calculated. BCC has experience in identifying and calculating a wide range of types of claimed reductions. These include:
    1. Adding Generating Capacity to replace, supplant or forestall other dirtier (from a GHG standpoint) or less efficient capacity.
      • Modify a simple cycle gas turbine power plant to a combined cycle plant.
      • Replace any simple cycle (gas.oil or coal) with a combined cycle plant of the same fuel or any other fossil fuel
      • Repower, refurbish, upgrade, increase efficiency or electrical output of any fossil fuel fired power plant.
      • Modify any stoker or pulverized coal fired boiler to a higher efficiency form of thermal generation including, as appropriate: fluid bed boiler, integrated gassifier, coal cleaning, combined cycle, PFBCC or IGCC.
      • Install any Renewable Energy form of generation instead of or to shut down coal or oil fired capacity: hydropower, wind, solar, geothermal, photovoltaic, biomass (wood wastes, bagasse, rice hulls, etc.) and any other forms of renewable energy.
      • Employ co-generation or combined heat and power plants.
      • Nuclear Power Generation
      • Hydrogen Fuel Cells
    2. Undertake Measures which absolutely reduce or eliminate existing GHG emissions
      • Separate carbon from flyash, using the mineral matter as a substitute for cement in making concrete and the carbon as a substitute for coke in making steel.
      • Transform flyash to hydrates and supplant large percentages of cementitious with pozzolanic cement in all its applications.
      • Clean coal, removing ash, and improve combustion efficiency.
      • Slurry and pipe coal from it's source to it's use point, eliminating emissions from trains or trucks used to haul it.
      • Switch fuels from coal to oil, oil to gas or coal to gas and use less excess air for combustion.
      • Capture methane emissions from:
        • operating coal mines
        • abandoned coal fields operating
        • oil fields
        • non associated gas domes
        • landfills
      • Employ Ventilation Air Methane (VAM), RamGen & / or Flaring to vent shafts and other releases of methane
      • Employ advanced cycles to recover heat or cool and eliminate fossil fired sources for this energy for cement, geothermal or waste incineration cycles.
      • Manage transmission systems to prevent losses of dielectrics.
      • Capture and utilize perfluorocarbons from aluminum smelters.
      • Capture and utilize:
        • 'Boil - Off from tankers
        • 'Flash - Gas' from terminals
        • 'Blow - Out' from dry docks
      • Reduce or eliminate gas pipeline leakages.
      • Capture fine soot from combustion.
    3. Provide Carbon Sinks
      • Forest, reforest or sequester existing forests or agricultural land to provide C02 absorption.
      • Inject streams of C02 gas into: mines, oil fields, sand, caverns or oceans
  2. Construct thorough and unassailable proof of the reduction. Calculate a before and after measures are taken comparison (Baseline and Project Scenarios). Provide examples of recognized procedures used, as backup for the calculations performed. Have available, if necessary, confirmation of the calculation by a registered professional engineer.
  3. Prepare and submit a Proposal Application for the Project to the recognized Approval Body for the location of the project, ie. IAS for the United States, CDM for developing countries, AIJ for the developed world. The Application must all be in full accordance with all of the provisions, criteria, requirements and rules of the UNFCCC.
  4. Participate in the Approval Process (rigorous examination) by answering all questions, adding and resubmitting information, providing backup and proofs where necessary plus making corrections and modifications, as required. The Process includes the following segments: Initial Submittal and Exam, Technical Screening, Technical Review and Evaluation Panel.
  5. Satisfy the Criteria of the Approving Body and the UNFCCC with respect to:
    • Transparency
    • Addinonality
    • Sustainability
    • Apportionment
    • Monitoring
    • Certification and
    • Backup
  6. Provide an independent 3rd Party to Monitor, Track, Record and Register the GHG emission reductions each year for the life of the project. BCC has an Agreement with and can use Environmental Defense Fund's Environmental Resources Trust (ERT) subsidiary or R.W. Beck Intn'l to perform this package.
  7. Provide full scale examination and review of both the Approval Process and the Monitoring Process by an independent 4th Party to Verify and Certify that all procedures, processes, criteria and actions taken are fully in accordance with the UNFCCC. BCC has an Agreement with and uses Societe Generale de Surveillance (SGS) a world leader in this field, to perform this certification.
  8. Constructs and Negotiates a binding Apportionment Agreement with all parties to the project, providing that each party may separately and individually choose from the various types of transactions available, as to how his share of the Credits will be handled.
  9. Negotiates Term Sheets from the full range of transactions possible, establishing the types of transactions desired by each party, with the broker - traders. BCC has working relationships with and uses Evolution Markets, Natsource or C02e.com for this service.
  10. Provides backup self insurance to the Credits and for the transaction, from a pool of reserve Credits set aside from other projects and held for this purpose.
  11. Provides after market Asset Management Services through Global Carbon Holdings including:
    • Access to established Funds and Fund Management.
    • Rating of the Credits via a fully engaged Rating Service (ala Moodys on bonds) is being established currently.
    • Capital Market Derivative Devices (financial products based on the Credits)
    • Registry and Banking of Credits for State and other government authorities
